Parish Of Urchfont

The Parish comprises the communities of Urchfont, Wedhampton and Lydeway, three villages approximately six miles south of Devizes and on the edge of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, UK.

The Parish is made up of approximately 960 registered electors and their family members not yet old enough to register. Farming provides the predominant work activity within the Parish.

Within the Parish you will find much that displays a typical English Village environment; the Urchfont Duck Pond (pictured above), Church, Village Hall, Community Shop and Post Office, Pub, Primary School/Pre-School, Cricket/Croquet ground, Recreation Ground/Play Area, Wood (Oakfrith), Cemetery, farm shops, farm buildings, thatched cottages, numerous sporting & social clubs together with many footpaths & bridleways all nestling within very active farmland and the wider countryside. The annual Scarecrow Festival, held over the early May Bank Holiday weekend, attracts many visitors from far and wide.

Urchfont won the Best Newcomer Award 2017 in the CPRE Best Kept Village Competition and in 2019 has won Best Kept Village in the Kennet section for medium sized village.

The Urchfont, Wedhampton and Lydeway Neighbourhood Plan was declared 'made' following a referendum on 20th April 2017.
